In June 2011 armed with a desire to further my homebrewing hobby and absolutely no idea what I was doing I bought four measly hop rhizomes online for about twenty dollars. Without even thinking about treating the soil or building a trellis I dug four shallow holes behind my garage and what would eventually become the Olson & Son Hopyard was born. Today, armed with only a little bit more knowledge of what we are doing, my son, Liam and I have three different locations growing six different varieties of hops, a modestly succesful business selling handmade wreaths made of our hop bines, along with branded merchandise such as T-Shirts and glasses.
It is our goal to grow quality hops for use by local breweries, utilizing as much of the plant as possible for other products, all while documenting our process through photography and storytelling. The Olson & Son Hopyard story includes our advocacy as a voice for the families of children with special medical needs. At its heart, the story of the Olson & Son Hopyard is simply the story of my family.
Good job!
